16,777,216 DMX Channels

Art-Net is a communication protocol that allows DMX512 (hereafter DMX) and RDM lighting data to be transported over an ethernet network. It uses a simple UDP based packet structure designed to provide efficient and low overhead data flow. The need for ever more channels, driven by the expansion of pixel based systems, continues unabated. This led to the release of Art-Net 3 in 2011. Art-Net 3 increased the number of universes that can be addressed from 8-bit to 15-bit (meaning that a total of 32,768 universes can be addressed). - Art-Net

Concept, Complexity, Control

Grand Place, Brussels, is a UNESCO World Heritage site renowned for its architecture. A collaboration between the city of Brussels and the federal program Beliris sought to enhance the stunning facades and general ambience of the square with energy-efficient LED lighting. The agency of Light Sculptor, Patrick Rimoux, provided the design concept, with the offical inauguration taking place in November 2013. The large scale and complexity of the project required a 20-Universe Colour-Tramp controller to provide individual control of the intensity and colour of some 1600 lamps. - Artistic License

Play, Robots, Interactive

Light Play is an interactive hive of miniature delta robots made from 3D printed parts which act as a mechanical prosthetic for enhancing self expression. The movements of the individual robots are choreographed by a single participant's physical gesture, resulting in simultaneous feedback in the form of movement and light patterns that mimic the motions of the body. - Light Play

Connected, Future, Vision

Connected product (n): A (consumer) product that connects with another device, collects or streams data to a platform that can be used to gain insight, take an action, or manipulate something.
New connected products are entering the market at an exponential rate, but the reality is that many products are not as great as they are hyped up to be. Our vision is that these products will do amazing things to improve lives, save money, make us healthier, create a better world…but they don’t. Well, at least not yet! - Autodesk
